Long History of Independence and Desire

Living on the shore of pristine Resurrection Bay, the nearly 500 members of Qutekcak Native Tribe have influenced life in Seward since the 1800s. Our history has gone relatively untold and our people need assistance in the same ways as other Alaskans in need.

Many of Alaska’s Native groups are recognized by the Federal Government giving them access to programs and services. Unfortunately, Qutekcak does not have that recognition, meaning we need to work with other groups to gain these services, and work hard to secure federal recognition to continue helping members.

The people of Qutekcak have moved to the area from other Alaska Native cultures, meaning our heritage is a combination of many tribes resulting in a mix of traditions and cultural standards. What’s been consistent for many years, though, is our tribal leadership and staff who are the glue keeping us together.
